Image
Press statement from the presidency... President Muhammadu Buhari warmly felicitates with the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as he clocks 64 years on March 29, 2016. The President believes the rising political profile of Asiwaju Tinubu since he was elected a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1992 is a testimony to his forthrightness, diligence and doggedness, the same qualities that had endeared him to the electorate and given him all-round success as a private sector worker, a businessman and two-term Governor of Lagos State. As one of the pillars of the APC, President Buhari commends the visionary leadership style of the Asiwaju of Lagos, who is also the Jagaban of the Borgu Kingdom in Niger State, for creating a formidable opposition party in Nigeria that worked vigorously within a short period to oust a party that had been in power for 16 years. The President assures the national leader that his patriotism...

Those calling for sack of CBN Governor are Palm Wine drinkers – Oshiomhole

Image
Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has described those calling for the sack of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele as ‘faceless manipulators and palm wine drinkers". The governor and a coalition of civil society groups in the country yesterday condemned those calling for the sack of Emefiele, describing them as faceless manipulators of the Nigerian economy who are bent on wasting their time... They stated that President Muhammadu Buhari would not be fooled by them into sacking the CBN governor. In a report by Ejiofor Alike and Paul Obi for ThisDay, Oshiomhole said the hiring and firing of the CBN governor is not a political decision because institutions such as the central bank are central to economic growth and development of any serious nation. The governor argued that those angling for the sack of Emefiele were merely invisible hands who have continued to thwart the nation’s economic resources for their selfish interest. The governor mad...

Ex-Sunderland footballer Adam Johnson has been sentenced to six years in prison for having sexual relations with a 15 year old girl. The jury passed out the judgement on the former England midfielder today, and at 28, his career as a professional footballer is surely over. Johnson had earlier denied all four of the allegations until the first day of his trial when he pleaded guilty to one count of grooming and one count of kissing the schoolgirl. Judge Jonathan Rose, upon pronouncing judgement told Johnson: “All of this is entirely your own responsibility and fault." The judge said the victim had been a Sunderland fan who would wait after matches to take pictures of her “favourite player”, Johnson, who had known her age. “That was known to you - to put it another way she had only just turned 15 when you began grooming her, because as you were to admit you found her sexually attractive. Those asking me to account for Abacha’s loot are stupid - Obasanjo

Image
Obasanjo says those asking for him to account for all the recovered Abacha loots are stupid. According to the 79 year old former president, the Abacha loot recovered when he served as president from 1999-2007 were handed to the then Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and so all questions about the recovered look should be directed at them. "They said the money recovered from Abacha, I should account for it. What stupidity! The man who asked for it, the man who gave the judgement or who answered them are all stupid, with due respect. I don’t keep account, all Abacha loots were sent to Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and every bit of it was reported to Minister of Finance. My job was to write where we can get help to recover the money.‎ Every penny that comes out of it went to CBN, so if they want to know what happened to the money, they should call CBN governor or call the Minister of Finance. But again, it shows ignorance, total ignoran...
